During our group discussions, we talked about how the children should have more agency over their learning and their environment. Ever since I first trained as a teacher and heard about the practices of Reggio Emilia, who consider the environment to be the 'third teacher', I've been curious as to how I can incorporate that more into my practice.
This academic year (2013-14), I have been fortunate enough to move into a new class space that could accommodate a role play area. I have seen in the past how role play can be such a valuable tool in supporting learning across a range of curriculum areas, from early reading and writing to maths and personal, social and emotional skills.

Learning Through Role Play- Jenni
My AM class independently decided they would like a role ply based on We're Going On a Bear Hunt (coincidentally the same as Sarah's K2 class in Wu Kai Sha - it's a popular book!). Both AM and PM classes gave their suggestions for what we would need, but the PM class ran away with the idea, drawing, cutting and creating as much as they could, with a few questions and some support from the adults.
